Trieste’s public transportation includes a very efficient and environmentally friendly bus service and ferry service (Delfino Verde). Recently added to Trieste’s system is the new HopTour bus service. Many tourists who visit Trieste don’t often rent cars, and yet several of the sightseeing hotspots are not located in the downtown area.
Here’s where HopTour comes in, providing rides throughout the city and to more remote locations like Miramare Castle and Barcola.
There are even daytrips available;
Mondays – to Lubiana and the Slovenian Caves of Postumia
Tuesdays – to Gorizia, Castello di Spessa (also a golf course) & Cividale del Friuli
Wednesdays – to Aquileia– an ancient Roman capitol and a Unesco Word Heritage site & Grado a pretty beach town situated on an island which also has a golf course.
Thursdays – to Lignano Sabbiadoro a pretty, family-friendly beach resort & golf course
Hopefully, they will expand their route to include the Risiera di San Sabba in Valmaura, Kleine Berlin Air Raid Tunnels and The Henriquez Museum, but for now, it’s a start.
All tours include Bus fare, guided tours, audio guides, free WiFi and USB charging stations onboard. Tickets are valid for 24hrs from time of purchase.
